Living in Highland Village, TX: What I'd Want You to Know Before You Buy (2026)

Highland Village is a smaller city on the shore of Lewisville Lake, right between Flower Mound and Lewisville. Buyers who find it usually love the quieter, established feel. Here's what I'd want you to know before you start looking.

What draws people to Highland Village

Doubletree Ranch Park. This lakeside park on Highland Village Road is the centerpiece of the city's park system, with a splash pad, fishing pier, pavilions, soccer fields and a walking loop.

Trails that connect the city. Highland Village has a trail network close to ten miles long. The City Trail runs east to west across town, and the Market Trail connects to The Shops at Highland Village and Highland Village Marketplace, so you can walk or bike to dinner and errands.

Rail access next door. The Highland Village/Lewisville Lake A-train station sits just east of I-35E at Garden Ridge Boulevard. It connects to Denton and to DART at Trinity Mills, and the A-train Rail Trail runs past it and across the lake.

The kind of homes you'll find

Highland Village is mostly established neighborhoods. Lots tend to be generous, many homes have mature trees, and new construction is limited because most of the city is already built out. That means inspections matter: roof age, HVAC, foundation and drainage are where I focus. North Texas clay soil moves, and older homes tell you their story if you know where to look.

Schools: check by address

Highland Village is served by Lewisville ISD. I still recommend confirming the assigned campuses for the specific address with the district before you make an offer.

Getting around

FM 407 (Justin Road) and FM 2499 are the main routes, with I-35E on the east side. If you commute toward Dallas, compare the drive with the A-train and DART option.

How Highland Village compares nearby

Want more parks and newer communities? Look at Flower Mound. Want more price points and a walkable old town? Look at Lewisville. I compare them side by side on my Flower Mound, Highland Village and Lewisville page.
